The two events which are of most importance to any seller or buyer are exchange of contracts and completion.

At the time when contracts are exchanged the buyer is bound to buy and the seller to sell. If either party cannot proceed there are serious penalties.

Completion is the day on which the property is paid for and you can move into your new property.
